Popular Methods Keeping Commercial Property Secure

It goes without saying that keeping your commercial property as secure as possible is vital. Not only do you need to ensure your property maintains its value, but also that its occupants are safe in their environment at all times.
The easiest way to deter crime in or around your commercial property is to ensure strong security is in place. Vandalism, break-ins and thefts can never be prevented, but with the right security features, your commercial property is far less likely to be targeted for criminal activity.
It’s fairly simple to secure your commercial property by means that are budget-friendly, tasteful and highly effective. If you’re looking to improve your own security goals, we’ve put together a list of the most popular methods of keeping commercial property secure:

  1.       Equip the property with an alarm system

Security is more than just external – one of the best ways to keep your commercial property secure is with an alarm system. Alarm systems can alert you immediately if an intruder has been detected, helping you to respond to incidents as quickly as possible. Make sure to monitor all of your key entrances and exits, and consider linking your alarm to other security features, such as lights and motion sensors.

  1.       Install locks on all doors and windows

It might seem like common sense to secure your main entrances and exits with top-quality locks, but the same should also go for any other means of access in your commercial property – whether that be fire doors, windows, or garage openings.
Intruders are unlikely to target main entrances for break-ins, and will instead focus on lesser-used entrances, which are likely to be weaker in security. Contact your local locksmiths for a full auto locksmith supply if you’re unsure of the best locking features for your property.

  1.       Set up a CCTV system

Security cameras have consistently proven to be the best crime deterrent in a workplace, and it’s easy to see why. Not only does the presence of security cameras dissuade criminals from targeting a commercial property, it also enables police to work effectively in investigations if a crime does take place.
Position security cameras inside and outside of your commercial property, making sure to focus on areas of entry, such as windows, doors and fire exits. Decide whether your video footage needs to be monitored constantly or stored for just-in-case use, depending on the nature of your business.

  1.       Implement exterior lighting

The rate of burglaries increases by a huge 50% during the night, with criminals favouring the dark for one obvious reason: they’re less likely to be caught in the act. While you can’t prevent darkness from falling, you can protect your commercial property with exterior lighting during the evening hours.
If your commercial property is dimly lit or in complete darkness during the night, you are offering plenty of hiding places for criminals to operate within. You can resolve this issue by placing lighting around your building’s entrances – motion sensors work well if you’re keen to cut down on energy costs.
