Tapped to reimagine and transform CorePower Yoga’s newest location in the heart of San Francisco, Alameda, California-based MBH Architects collaborated with the popular yoga studio chain to conceptualize a space that reflects a wellness- and sustainability-focused brand. Situated on 150 Van Ness Ave, CorePower’s Hayes Valley facility helps members and visitors alike achieve an intensely physical workout, rooted in the mindfulness of yoga through streamlined design and strategic planning.
Located on the ground level of a luxury condominium building, the design team reconfigured the 3,627-square-foot space to support the new studio’s variety of fitness and wellness needs. Yogis are invited into the studio through large glass doors that open up into a sleek reception area—where they are greeted by a black pop-out soffit design check-in desk and pops of orange detailing that reference the brand. Polished concrete floors throughout the lobby and hallways provide a unique design element not found in other CorePower Yoga locations, and were left exposed to complement the brand’s clean and modern aesthetic. Once past the reception, guests are guided into the gym’s locker room by custom LED lighting that reflect CorePower’s radiating logo in a half circle. Transparency was kept at a maximum, allowing visitors to peek into studio spaces equipped with floor-to ceiling mirrors and windows that allow natural light to permeate the classes. A full retail boutique also is present in each location, with activewear and accessories displayed on an industrial shelving units.
In line with both CorePower Yoga and MBH’s dedication to sustainable building practices, the studio features recycled and natural materials throughout, including light-wash studio flooring certified by the USGBC Green Building Council. Water conservation and energy efficiency were prioritized, as with all CorePower locations, with elements including custom LED fixtures and “EcoPower” faucets, as well as filtered water bottle refilling stations. Climate-controlled rooms utilize the latest in technology to heat and maintain humidity levels across the entire space, while Benjamin Moore Natura paint was selected for its zero VOC content and resistance to mildew.
MBH Architects and CorePower Yoga have established a long standing working relationship, partnering on eleven studio projects cross the United States. The teams are currently working together to bring the concept to the East Coast with locations opening in Washington, D.C., and Dallas, Texas.
