First opening its doors in 1937, Krispy Kreme Doughnuts quickly became a local phenomenon delivering their fresh donuts to various groceries stores in the Winston-Salem, NC area. By the 1940s they had eight delicious flavors and their very first trademarked delivery truck. Towards the late 1980s Krispy Kreme opened their first retail store in Greensboro, NC and fortunately never looked back. In February 2015, they opened their 1,000th retail store located in Kansas City, KS. Now having over 1,000 locations around the United States and Canada, Krispy Kreme has turned into an international delicious sensation.
One of its newest stores is located in Victorville, CA, about 80 miles north of Los Angeles. Architectural Building Products in Buffalo, NY distributed approximately 2,800 sq ft of Omega-Lite® ACM panels in Brite Red and Forest Green. Laminators’ capability to match their standard PVDF/Kynar 500® colors to Krispy Kreme’s corporate colors of green and red was significant in maintaining the consistency of the overall vision. Omega-Lite ACM panels offer a highly decorative, strong, and durable surface finish for exterior wall surfaces.
Composed of a polypropylene, light-weight corrugated core between two finished aluminum sheets, these panels are non-absorbent, water-resistant and easy to maintain.
Due to time constraints and lead times, local architect Architecture Design Collaborative, Laguna Hills, CA decided to switch from a rout and return type of system originally specified in the plans to Laminators’ proprietary 1-Piece, Tight-Fit installation system. Wanting to keep the project on schedule, this system made panel installation simple using Laminators durable 1-piece moldings — both “H” and “Reveal H” moldings are available providing two different design options for the panel joints.
Using this specific installation system also allowed the entire team including general contractor, CE Thomas Company, Gardena, CA to figure out a way to install the Brite Red Omega-Lite panels on the intricate radius canopy. Many hands as well as thinking outside the box were involved in the process of covering this complex canopy. The 1-Piece, Tight-Fit system achieved a modern and high-tech appearance at an affordable cost for all involved.
“We always go with Omega-Lite panels on our projects. The ease of Laminators’ field cutting and quick delivery systems make them our go-to metal panel provider. This project was originally designed with a different product, but difficulty with long lead times made this a better solution and the end result turned out better than we could have imagined.” said Craig Chinn, AIA, Principal, Architecture Design Collaborative, Laguna Hills, CA.
Omega-Lite installed with the 1-Piece, Tight-Fit system guaranteed the facility a class A fire rating as well as met NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 285, Miami-Dade County Product Control and Florida Product Approval requirements. Laminators Inc. manufactures high quality ACM panels that meet these stringent performance levels and provide design professionals and building owners the confidence that their cladding will withstand the most extreme conditions.
