Kalamazoo Valley Community College and Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights to Announce Apprenticeship Agreement
Kalamazoo Valley Community College (Kalamazoo Valley) and Michigan Regional Council of Carpenters and Millwrights (MRCC) will announce the execution of a prior learning agreement that will provide college credit at Kalamazoo Valley for apprentices who complete journeyman certification training at MRCC's training center, 500 Reno Drive in Wayland, Michigan. The agreement will be signed at media event from 2 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 at the Wayland training center.
Prior learning agreements like the one being signed Friday offer those receiving industry leading, hands-on training in recognized apprenticeship programs a path to continue their learning in a partnering community college. The partnership between the MRCC and Kalamazoo Valley will open new doors to opportunities to hundreds of local apprentices to advance their careers in the construction industry.
Kalamazoo Valley President L. Marshall Washington, Ph.D. said, "Kalamazoo Valley works to ensure high academic quality and encourages student achievement. We have found a worthy partner in our shared commitment to this goal in the MRCC. We are pleased to provide this opportunity for apprentices who complete their journeyman certificate."
This event takes place during National Apprenticeship Week, an initiative of the US Department of Labor to highlight the roll of apprenticeship in creating opportunity for working people and powering our country's economic growth. More at https://www.apprenticeship.gov/national-apprenticeship-week.
