JMJ Development, one of the largest builders of luxury real estate properties in the United States, has appointed David Messersmith as Director of Hospitality.
As Director of Hospitality, David leads the entire hospitality platform where he evaluates investment/development opportunities, manages a robust portfolio of hospitality projects throughout the Americas, and manages the execution of projects with the focus of enhancing value for JMJ and its investors.
Previously at Gatehouse Capital, David helped formulate and lead the firm’s hospitality practice. He spent the previous six years as vice president at an international luxury hospitality design firm, where he worked on projects across the globe and his team won numerous industry awards for their work.
A regular adviser to hospitality industry colleagues, David is an expert on enhancing the guest experience and improving operations. He monitors other industries for case studies that provide insights applicable to the hospitality industry and shares actionable methodology for optimizing and implementing those ideas. He has worked with some of the world’s most recognized brands, as well as numerous boutique and independent operators in his career, and is frequently sought for his expertise in CapEx planning, “refinement vs. renovation,” and uncovering niche hospitality investment opportunities. He also regularly advises FF&E suppliers in product development.
David is a former member of Emerging Leaders in Hospitality, and currently serves on the board hospitality technology firm Impulsify.
