The iBuild Middle School Summer Construction Camp, a transformative educational initiative, successfully concluded its latest session, thanks to the generous sponsorship of Hensel Phelps, Competitive Edge Partners, Balfour Beatty, Skanska, and Mack Contracting. This year, the camp provided an extraordinary hands-on experience for young students eager to explore the dynamic world of construction.
Throughout the camp, students engaged in a variety of construction activities, including plumbing, carpentry, concrete work, and heavy equipment trades. These practical experiences allowed them to gain valuable skills and insights into the construction industry. Additionally, they had the unique opportunity to collaborate with a design firm, enabling them to imagine and create their very own design for a city park—a project that fostered creativity and teamwork.
A highlight of the camp was the visit to an active job site, made possible by Andrews General Contracting. Here, students witnessed the electrical trade in action and even had the chance to practice bending pipe, providing them with a real-world perspective on construction careers.
The success of the iBuild Middle School Summer Construction Camp would not have been possible without the exceptional leadership of Mr. Paul Allen and the outstanding partnership with Mr. Koi Slaughter from the City of Orlando. Their dedication and support ensured the camp ran smoothly and delivered an enriching experience for all participants.
“We are incredibly proud of the students’ enthusiasm and dedication throughout the camp,” said Debbie Rodriguez, president of iBuild. “It’s inspiring to see the next generation of construction professionals in the making.”
The iBuild Middle School Summer Construction Camp continues to be a beacon of opportunity for young minds, nurturing their interest in construction and providing them with the skills and knowledge to build a brighter future.
