International design and architecture firm Perkins Eastman is pleased to announce that Lance Hosey FAIA, LEED AP, BD+C, has joined the firm as its newest Principal and its first Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO), as well as the firm’s Board of Directors. Based out of the Washington, DC, office, Hosey’s expertise and 25+ years of leadership will become integral to all Perkins Eastman sustainability and high-performance strategies, particularly as it moves forward with initiatives related to the AIA 2030 Commitment, which the firm signed earlier this year. As the AIA’s response to the 2030 Challenge, which tasks committed practices to make all new buildings, developments, and major renovations carbon-neutral by 2030, Hosey’s vast experience in this arena will become an invaluable asset within the firm and to its clients. He brings with him a team of three sustainability professionals who will join later this summer.

“We are very excited to bring Lance aboard as our first CSO,” says David Hoglund FAIA, President and COO of Perkins Eastman. “As the design team leader for dozens of architecturally and environmentally ambitious projects, Lance has distinguished himself on an international level as a true visionary in sustainable, eco-conscious design. We are committed to improving quality of life through design and the built environment, and sustainability is a cornerstone of that goal. Having Lance join our leadership team is a giant leap forward.”

Lance Hosey currently chairs the USGBC’s LEED Advisory Committee and serves on the Advisory Group for the AIA’s Committee on the Environment (COTE). A prolific author as well, Hosey launched Architect Magazine’s first sustainability column, which he wrote from 2007 to 2010. His writing has been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Metropolis, Architectural Record, and The Huffington Post, among numerous other publications.

Hosey has also authored two books, the latest of which, The Shape of Green: Aesthetics, Ecology, and Design, was a finalist for 2014 Book of the Year at the National Urban Design Awards and has been Amazon’s #1 bestseller for sustainable design. Formerly he was the first CSO with RTKL, President and CEO of the sustainability nonprofit GreenBlue, a Director with William McDonogh + Partners, and a designer with Gwathmey Siegel Kaufman and Rafael Viñoly. Notable past clients include NASA, Palm, Google, SC Johnson, the University of California, and American University.

“As one of the world’s largest design firms,” says Hosey, “Perkins Eastman provides a perfect platform to influence change in the industry, and I’m thrilled to be joining.”
