Henderson Engineers, a national building systems design firm, announces the promotion of Brian O’Neil to venue sector sports practice director. In this new position, O’Neil will help lead the Henderson business unit that specializes in arenas, stadiums, ballparks, and practice facilities for professional and collegiate sports alongside Kelly Hyde and Sean Kolich, whose roles as sports practice directors remain unchanged.
A 10-year architecture, engineering, and construction industry veteran, O’Neil joined Henderson Engineers in 2016 and most recently served as sports practice manager. He is based out of the company’s Los Angeles office and has been heavily involved in various major projects throughout his tenure, most notably Austin FC’s Q2 Stadium, the Las Vegas Aces’ practice facility and team headquarters, the Los Angeles Chargers’ new practice facility, and the Los Angeles Clippers’ Intuit Dome.
“Brian has been an invaluable member of our team for the past seven years, lending his technical expertise to numerous successful projects while demonstrating a knack for business development that has helped make the sports practice one of the fastest growing practices at our company,” said Ryan Starkovich, venue sector executive at Henderson Engineers. “Congratulations to Brian on this well-deserved promotion, which will enable us to continue to maintain a high level of leadership involvement with our projects and clients as we continue to grow.”
In addition to design, O’Neil will collaborate closely with sister company Henderson Building Solutions, a construction management and commissioning firm, on overseeing renovation projects involving the replacement and maintenance of existing mechanical and electrical infrastructure within sports facilities.
“I’m excited for this latest step in my journey with Henderson and the opportunity to continue making an impact for our clients through creative, innovative, and sustainable design solutions. The sports industry is rapidly evolving with sustainability leading the charge and I’m eager to be at the forefront of shaping the next generation of venues,” said O’Neil.
O’Neil earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is a licensed professional engineer and a LEED AP BD+C certified professional.
