FK Architecture, a Fugleberg Koch Company, is pleased to announce its partnership with Habitat for Humanity Seminole-Apopka for Women Build 2022 to raise funds and to provide affordable housing in the local community. FK will join other women builders over a six-week period to build two homes located at 1577 and 1581 Dixie Way in the Goldsboro Community, Sandford, FL. The FK team’s build date is on Friday, May 13th, between 8:00 a.m. and 12 noon. This is the 5th year FK Architecture has participated in the Women Build program.
As part of an unrestricted, $436 million gift to Habitat for Humanity International and 84 U.S. Habitat affiliate organizations from American author and philanthropist Mackenzie Scott, Habitat Seminole-Apopka has received a transformational $3.5 million. This gift will substantially help the affiliate realize its goal of providing affordable housing and financial education.
“The Mackenzie Scott donation is a game-changer for the organization,” said Kimberly Hellekson, Managing Principal of FK Architecture. “We are immeasurably proud to have the opportunity to partner, again, with Habitat for Humanity for Women Build 2022. This special project provides an affordable, safe, and solid home for a local family.”
Each year, women come together in support of the Women Build program. With the need for affordable housing greater than ever due to rapidly rising housing costs, women have shown up in record numbers to support each other, with 95% of the project leadership and participation coming from female builders, designers, and architects.
“One in six Floridians face unaffordable housing costs every month—that’s unacceptable. With the support of building partners like FK Architecture, we can help to decrease those numbers,” said Penny Seater, CEO of Habitat for Humanity, Seminole County. “The Women Build campaign will increase affordable housing availability, make the American dream of homeownership a reality, and create a positive, sustainable impact in the Seminole County community for years to come.”
With housing affordability in Central Florida at crisis levels, this transformational gift and the continuing local support will benefit the community with affordable, stable housing. This will be accompanied by the many positive social outcomes – such as better health, higher graduation rates, lower crime, and pregnancy rates – that come with homeownership.
