Each year The Daily Reporter, a statewide construction newspaper, honors outstanding Wisconsin construction projects on its annual Top Projects in Wisconsin list. This year, four of Miron Construction Co., Inc.โs projects have been recognized: Menasha Corporation Corporate Office in Neenah, Red Creek Elementary School in Black River Falls, One Menasha Center in Menasha and Skyward, Inc.โs new Corporate Headquarters in Stevens Point.ย ย ย
Awards will be presented at the Top Projects of 2016 banquet on May 16, 2017, at the Potawatomi Hotel & Casino in Milwaukee. The event aims to recognize members of the construction industryโincluding general contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, and ownersโwhose projects exceeded expectations this past year.ย ย
Below is additional information about Mironโs award-winning projects:ย ย
Menasha Corporation Corporate Officeย
Due to company growth and increasing demands for a more collaborative work environment, Menasha Corporation decided to construct a new office building to replace the existing 50-year-old structure with a landmark facility to serve the 167-year-old company for future generations. The new building houses both its global corporate headquarters, the national headquarters of Menasha Packaging Company (Menasha Corp.โs largest subsidiary), and its Retail Integration Institute (RII), which showcases product innovations in a variety of retail settings for their customers to experience.ย
The new facility was constructed on the site of the companyโs current headquarters in Neenah, integrating some of the historic elements of the original facility into the new design. Among many other benefits, the building provides additional space, improved work flow, a collaborative and flexible work environment, and an open-office layout to support and reflect the companyโs corporate culture. Designed for approximately 280 people, the environment promotes wellness, emphasizes company pride, and showcases the companyโs innovative and customer-focused solutions. Menasha Corporationโs new headquarters is Gold LEED Certified under LEED BD+C – NC v2009.ย
Red Creek Elementary Schoolย
In 2014, the Black River Falls School District established a task force as a way to express the needs of the district to community members. This lead to a successful referendum and the construction of the new Red Creek Elementary School (the name was selected from 5,000 entries from students and community members). The school serves second- through fifth-grade students and replaces Third Street Elementary School, a facility that was built in 1926. Upgrading the existing school would have been costly and still wouldnโt have addressed the learning environment needs for students or the safety and security concerns faced by the district.ย
The new school building alleviates multiple pain points, including improved access for students with mobility needs, elevators, safe parent/bus pick-up and drop-off areas, secure entrances, an expanded outdoor area and unification of grades K-5 on one campus. In addition, the 90,000-square-foot, two-story structure features grade-level neighborhoods where classrooms are clustered together and offer open collaboration spaces. The first floor includes the office, cafeteria, kitchen, gymnasium, and classrooms, and an identical second floor sits atop the first with the library, music, art, and other grade-level rooms.
One Menasha Centerย
This eight-story, 118,200-square-foot office tower was built on the site of the former Hotel Menasha and former First National Bank. Faith Technologies, Community First Credit Union and RLJ Dental occupy the building. One Menasha Center is an investment in downtown Menasha, breathing new life into the area, creating new jobs and boosting the vibrancy of the community.ย
Skyward, Inc. New Corporate Headquartersย
Skyward, an educational software developer, was outgrowing its existing facilities in Stevens Point. Needing additional space, and wanting to consolidate its two local offices under one roof, the company made the decision to construct a new, state-of-the-art headquarters in the Portage County Business Park. The multi-story facility offers space designed to be reflective of Skywardโs workflow and management style.ย ย
Miron was hired as the construction manager for the new four-story, 184,542-square-foot corporate office building. The facility includes a 24-stall underground parking garage, an on-site medical clinic and large locker rooms to accommodate employees who bike to work or exercise on the adjacent recreational trail system. The cafeteria area and adjacent employee patio overlook a 1.6-acre pond, which serves aesthetic purposes and provides on-site storm-water detention. The facility, when completely full, accommodates 862 employees. The building also houses 60 conference/WebX rooms, an 80-person training room and on-site recording studio for assembling training materials.
