FK Architecture, a Fugleberg Koch Company, is pleased to welcome Senior Planner Shawn Reed, a registered landscape architect, as the firm expands its services to include Landscape Architecture and Planning. Reed has extensive design experience in regional-scale community master plans and has a broad background in providing clients with aesthetically pleasing and functional designs. His duties entail overseeing all aspects of the landscape architectural design and planning process, from initial conceptual sketches to full construction document phase, including strategic planning, regulation compliance, feasibility studies, and liaising with community stakeholders.
Prior to joining the firm, Reed served as a landscape architect for the Evans Group where he worked on projects ranging from single-family homes, community amenity designs, and infill projects to master-planning large regional communities. He also is the owner of a boutique that handcrafts leather goods. Reed’s use of design principles, materials, and construction techniques, combined with a perspective of economics and trade-offs will benefit owners and users of the created spaces.
“As FK expands its offerings to include Landscape Architecture and Planning for our clients, Shawn will play a crucial role in elevating our firm’s services,” said Kimberly Hellekson, Managing Principal and Owner at FK Architecture. “Shawn is a team-oriented professional, and we look forward to delivering innovative landscape architecture and planning services to our clients, and extending our building design concepts throughout the site.”
Reed earned a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture from the University of Florida, where he graduated with high honors. He received his master’s degree in economics from George Mason University, where he was also the recipient of a Mercatus Center Fellowship. In between his undergraduate and graduate studies, he attended the Reformed Theological Seminary, pursuing a non-degree path of study in the field of Divinity.
“I am delighted to bring my eclectic skill set to such a recognized firm as FK Architecture,” said Reed. “I wake up in the middle of the night with ideas on how to make a design work just that little bit better—that passion is shared here at FK, and I am excited about building the firm’s new Landscape Architecture Group together, locally and nationally.”
