Catching a falling leaf can bring you good luck, but after they fall, should you clean them up? There’s a growing resistance to cleaning leaves believe it or not!
This might have you questioning whether cleaning up leaves should be part of your fall maintenance checklist. Read on to explore the answer to this in order to decide if it’s right for your checklist today!

What Is the Point of Raking Leaves?

Fall leaves make quite the mess and make you want to reach for your back pack leaf blower. If left unattended, they can turn into mildew in the winter months, and affect the growth of your grass in the spring.
While raking leaves isn’t a problem, it’s what you do afterward that’ll decide how effective it is. Instead of throwing them in a bag and taking them to the local dump, reconsider. Don’t think about burning them either since that’s a big problem as well and banned in certain areas.

The Best Way To Dispose of Leaves

Choose to compost or mulch your fall leaves for an eco-friendly option. Look into the composting programs in your area to see where you can take the leaves. Some areas will have clean-up services that’ll pick up your leaves and take them to the compost site.

The Problem With Raking Leaves

Keep in mind that raking your leaves can negatively impact various creatures. These can include insects, butterflies, turtles, and others. They use this extra layer during the cooler months to relax, and when you rake them, you’re killing them.

How To Remove Leaves From Your Roof

First, you can choose from either a roof rake or a leaf blower. For wet leaves, you’ll need to use a telescoping roof leak rake. It’s similar to a push broom.
Consider standing on a ladder as you rake since that’ll give you more control. Many of them can be used on the ground as well.
Certain roof rakes will also help with the clean-up of pine needles. For areas with coniferous trees, consider buying a needle rake.
For dry leaves, a leaf blower is a great option. You can climb up on a ladder in order to have more control over where the air blows. Don’t blow leaves toward the gutters since that’ll make more of a clean-up for you.

Cleaning Your Gutters

Besides lawn and roof cleaning, you’ll need to clean your gutters as part of your roof maintenance as well. When debris gets stuck, it can lead to issues and damage to your home’s foundation.

Why Cleaning Leaves Is Important for Your Fall Checklist

After exploring this guide, you should have a better idea if cleaning leaves should be a part of your fall checklist. Take your time deciding on the right tools for the job before you begin.
