Major mid-price hotel operator Extended Stay America has reduced its owned-room portfolio more than 10% in pursuit of an “asset-lite” model it hopes will foster stability, according to The Wall Street Journal. Most of the sold-off properties become franchised as the chain aims for a mix of 70% owned and 30% franchised.
