DuPont™ Tedlar® PVF film was recently selected as a protective material for the renovation of one of the largest women and children’s medical centers in Asia. The expanded Guangzhou Women and Children’s Medical Center includes approximately 1000 patient beds and covers a total building area of 220,000 square meters. Chosen for its excellent durability and cleanability, this expansion project showcases the wide range of substrates that Tedlar® can protect to create a long-lasting, clean, safe, and beautiful environment.
“We are proud to be part of this prestigious project, which is a great example of the multiple ways Tedlar® can be used to protect important surfaces,” said Matt Urfali, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, DuPont™ Tedlar®.
Tedlar® was used in three different ways – interior metal panels, wallcoverings, and wardrobe finishes:
- Interior walls made of metal, ideal for the humid climate in South China, were laminated with Tedlar® to provide long-lasting protection.
- Tedlar® was thermo-formed to the doors of closets, cabinets, and wardrobes in patient rooms. The film was vacuum sealed to PVC and composite wood panels to ensure the durability and cleanability of the furniture as well as walls.
- Tedlar® was laminated to a wallcovering patterned with wood, textured grass cloth, and other prints to create a colorful yet healing atmosphere for this modern medical space.
Tedlar® is easy to clean and can stand up to the harshest cleaning solvents, including bleach, alcohols, ketones, acids, and alkalis. It protects surfaces from scuffs and stains, making it ideal for high-traffic healthcare environments. With outstanding durability against both chemicals and abrasions, Tedlar® can be scrubbed and sterilized continuously without breaking down over time, providing a good-as-new appearance that can be easily maintained for years to come.
“We chose Tedlar® for this project because of its long history of durable protection in extreme environments, specifically healthcare settings,” said Liu Jun, Project Designer of Guangzhou Urbanization Design Institute.
This project started in May 2021 and was completed in June 2022. Tedlar® was specified by ESCO Building Materials Co. Ltd.. ESCO supplies construction materials for walls, ceiling, and flooring to commercial installations, working with design teams to specific materials for local building and healthcare projects. The wallcovering products were sold by Tedlar® partner Shanghai ENP Industrial Co., LTD and the PVC/metal panels were laminated with Tedlar® by ESCO.
