One of the country’s most venerated and largest 100% Black-owned construction and real estate development and management enterprises, Cruz Companies, has announced a number of strategic promotions and new hires. Headlining these moves is the appointment of Justin Cruz to the position of Chief Operating Officer across all three Cruz Companies corporate divisions. Accompanying this elevation is the promotion of longtime John B. Cruz Construction team member John Teixeira to the role of Project Manager, as well as the elevations of Cruz Management team members Jennifer Then to Regional Property Manager and Cherelle Spencer to Senior Property Manager.

In addition, Cruz Companies has added a number of newly appointed professionals that reflect the firm’s depth of talent and expertise across the construction, real estate development, and property management sectors. These include the hiring of Isabel DeAndrade, who has joined Cruz Companies as Executive Assistant along with several other key office staff, as well as the elevation of four additional Cruz Management team members and the hiring of 14 new management division employees.
These new appointments come as Cruz Companies, which recently won the global “Brands That Matter” award from Fast Company Magazine, celebrates its 75th anniversary and expands its reach with significant new projects. Highlights of this growing portfolio include a 50-unit affordable housing community in College Park, Md.; the soon-to-open Michael E. Haynes Building in Boston with 55 units of affordable housing and the company’s new global headquarters offices; a mixed-use, 170-unit complex with a five-story affordable wing plus a 10-story condominium with under-ground parking in the Roxbury, Massachusetts Nubian Square district; and an 80-plus-unit affordable community in New Bedford, Mass., that reimagines several historic landmarks.

Justin CruzChief Operating Officer, Cruz Companies
Recognized as an imaginative leader with a keen experience in real estate as well as training and work as a professional artist, clients and colleagues trust Justin Cruz for his creative outlook and community-oriented approach. As Director of Cruzreating a safe, healthy, and sustainable living environment for families. Reflecting his proactive stance, most recently Mr. Cruz has also spearheaded the development of an updated brand identity for Cruz Companies, led expanded external and corporate communications campaigns, and he has overseen the implementation of state-of-the-art property management software across Cruz Management’s entire portfolio. In addition, Justin Cruz has played a significant role in the planning of Cruz Companies’ new headquarters, which will bring all of the organization’s corporate divisions under one roof for the first time.Justin Cruz is also closely involved in leading Cruz C.A.R.E.S., the organization’s dedicated 501(c)3 nonprofit arm. John TeixeiraProject Manager, Cruz Construction
With nearly a decade of management experience at Cruz Companies, John Teixeira is regarded as one of the organization’s most skilled construction project leaders. Since joining Cruz Companies in 2015 upon graduating from the Wentworth Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Architecture, Teixeira’s growing skills and commitment to the firm led to increasingly senior roles in major building projects. His success in supervising construction of the new Michael E. Haynes Arms development, a mixed-use residential and office complex, was instrumental to its timely completion this fall. In his new role as project manager, Teixeira will take on expanded organizational leadership responsibilities in addition to his project work.
Jennifer ThenRegional Property Manager, Cruz Management
Jennifer Then is one of Cruz Management’s rising stars. Beginning her tenure in 2016 as a front desk clerk and quickly establishing herself as a knowledgeable and dedicated advocate for residents of Cruz Management properties, Ms. Then advanced to the role of property manager before being named as regional property manager this fall. Certified as a Blended Occupancy Specialist, she is highly regarded by colleagues and Cruz Management tenants alike for her integrity, problem-solving skills, industry knowledge, and commitment to improving company-wide processes.
Cherelle SpencerSenior Property Manager, Cruz Management
A valued member of the Cruz Management team for over three years, Cherelle Spencer plays an essential role as a property manager overseeing hundreds of residential units across the greater Boston area, including the Cox Building, Harwell Homes Cooperative, and Park Gardens properties. In her expanded role as a senior property manager, which she begins as Cruz Companies prepares to significantly increase the size of its property portfolio with new development projects, Spencer will take on additional leadership responsibilities and manage a growing team of Cruz Management staff members.
