Danielle D. Kleinhans is a Structural/Transportation Engineer at the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI), where she has worked since 2011. With more than 10 years of experience in structural engineering and bridge design, she has been selected as a 2015 recipient of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) Young Member Award for Professional Achievement. Kleinhans was selected “for contributions to the design and use of concrete in bridges, serving as a liaison with concrete industry institutes, and for her service on ACI technical committees.”
Kleinhans’ responsibilities at CRSI include managing durability and corrosion issues, directing activities related to transportation structures, administering the CRSI certification programs, as well as co-authoring CRSI technical documents. Prior to CRSI, Kleinhans was a Senior Engineer and Group Manager for CTLGroup in Skokie, IL, where she led a staff of up to 15 engineers. Prior to joining CTLGroup, she served as Structural Design Engineer for bridge consultant Modjeski and Masters in Harrisburg, PA.
Kleinhans currently chairs Joint ACI-ASCE Committee 343, Concrete Bridge Design; and is a voting member of ACI Committee 437, Strength Evaluation of Existing Concrete Structures; and an associate member of ACI Committees 222, Corrosion of Metals in Concrete; and 440, Fiber-Reinforced Polymer Reinforcement. She also serves on the ACI Publications Committee. She is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) and also chairs the National Concrete Bridge Council (NCBC), an affiliated group of 10 industry organizations with a common focus on the design, construction, and condition of concrete bridges. Kleinhans received her BS in civil engineering from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, Fairbanks, AK, in 1998, and her MS and Doctorate in civil engineering from Missouri S&T, Rolla, MO, in 1999 and 2002, respectively. She is a licensed engineer in five states.

Founded in 1924, the Concrete Reinforcing Steel Institute (CRSI) is a technical institute and an ANSI-accredited Standards Developing Organization (SDO) that stands as the authoritative resource for information related to steel reinforced concrete construction.
Serving the needs of engineers, architects and construction professionals, CRSI offers many industry-trusted technical publications, standards documents, design aids, reference materials and educational opportunities. CRSI Members include manufacturers, fabricators, material suppliers and placers of steel reinforcing bars and related products as well as professionals who are involved in the research, design, and construction of steel reinforced concrete.
