Cowboy Chicken, the Texas-based fast casual restaurant known for its wood-fire rotisserie chicken, has once again earned national recognition as one of Fast Casual magazine’s Top 100 Movers & Shakers. Rising to No. 28 on this year’s list, Cowboy Chicken celebrates its 15th consecutive year of being honored as one of the most influential brands in the fast casual industry.

The 2025 Top 100 Movers & Shakers list highlights brands that are redefining the industry through menu innovation, technological advancement and exceptional leadership. This year, Cowboy Chicken was recognized for its continued evolution, including the successful launch of its virtual brand Smackbird Hot Chicken, the expansion of its bowl and seasonal menu offerings and ongoing investment in guest experience technology like self-order kiosks, mobile ordering via Paytronix, and personalized engagement through Olo Engage.

“With every decision, we ask how we can make the experience better for our guests,” says Sean Kennedy, President and CEO of Cowboy Chicken. “Rising to 28th on the list this year reflects how our team continues to embrace change, listen to our customers and innovate in ways that stay true to our roots. We’re honored to be recognized among the best in the business.”

Cowboy Chicken continues to build on its 40-year legacy of serving all-natural rotisserie chicken while meeting modern diners where they are—whether through online ordering, loyalty-driven marketing or new flavors that complement its wood-fire foundation.

All about the chicken

The eatery serves all-natural, hormone-free rotisserie chickens that are hand-seasoned in store, marinated for 24 hours and then slowly roasted for two hours over a real wood-burning fire. Other dishes include chicken enchiladas, wings, salads and family meals. Made-from-scratch Wild West sides complement the chicken, and irresistible desserts like Jeanette’s homemade peach cobbler and banana puddin’ round out each meal. Cowboy Chicken’s hearty and healthy dishes are available during lunch and dinner for dine-in, takeout, catering and delivery.

Cowboy Chicken is a fast casual restaurant chain known for its real wood-fired rotisserie chicken and warm Texas hospitality. Since 1981, the brand has built a loyal following and earned national recognition for its crave-worthy menu and commitment to quality. Named one of Fast Casual’s Top 100 Movers & Shakers year after year, Cowboy Chicken was also honored as Restaurant Business’s Emerging Chain of the Year and ranked among Foodable’s 25 Most Loved Brands. Cowboy Chicken is currently seeking qualified franchisees to help build the brand in select markets across the U.S.
