We surveyed more than 6,000 Americans about their experience with foot pain and had 10 podiatrists lend their knowledge and experience to create a comprehensive report of foot pain across America in 2023.
Our report revealed that foot pain is a significant problem in the construction industry, with construction ranking in the top 10 careers for foot pain.
We found that jobs that involve prolonged standing, walking, or wearing heavy or ill-fitting footwear can put increased stress on the feet, leading to conditions such as plantar fasciitis, metatarsalgia, and heel pain. Occupations that require repetitive motions—such as construction jobs or assembly-line work—can contribute to the development of foot pain and injury, such as overuse injuries.
Some other highlights from our report:
-
83% of Americans experience foot pain on an ongoing basis.
-
Only 59% of those with foot pain have been formally diagnosed by a health professional with a foot condition.
