A new study has revealed the most dangerous industries for US employees to work in, with the Construction industry landing in third place. The research provides crucial insights into job safety and highlights the potential hazards faced by workers in industries across America.

Personal Injury Firm, DeMayo Law Group, examined workplace fatality figures across major industries in the US from 2022, revealing the most dangerous industry for employees in the US is the Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting sector.

In third place is the Construction industry with 1,069 fatal work injuries in one year and a rate of 14.1 fatal work injuries per worker. Construction workers are exposed to hazards such as falling from heights, working with heavy machinery, and exposure to harmful substances.

The Agriculture, forestry, fishing, and hunting industry exposes employees to heavy machinery, dangerous tools, and unpredictable working conditions. With 417 injuries in 12 months, this industry averages 18.6 fatal injuries per 100,000 full-time employees.

The study reported the transportation and warehousing industry in second place with 1,053 fatalities in 12 months, and a 14.1 fatal work injury rate. Workers in this industry face multiple hazards including traffic accidents, heavy lifting, and potentially dangerous work environments like loading docks and warehouses.

Commenting on the research, a spokesperson at DeMayo said, “Our research aims to raise awareness on workplace safety and promote measures to minimize risks within the workplace. By identifying the most dangerous jobs, employers and regulatory bodies can develop targeted strategies to protect workers and prevent accidents.

“Some industries naturally pose more risks than others due to the machinery or heavy lifting involved, which is part of the reason we see the Construction industry in third place. With this in mind, our research serves as a reminder for individuals and organizations to prioritize thorough risk assessments, safety on construction sites and to take proactive steps to mitigate potential hazards.”

The research showed wholesale trade is the fourth most dangerous industry for workers. Being an industry where employees frequently handle large quantities of goods, the fatal work injury rate for this industry is 5.4.

Professional and business services is fifth with a 3.1 fatal injury work rate, and other services excluding public administration is in sixth place with a rate of 2.9. This category includes a range of industries such as repair and maintenance, personal care services, and private education services.

In seventh place is the leisure and hospitality industry which has a fatal work rate of 2.8. Next, in eighth place is the manufacturing industry with 404 fatal work injuries in 12 months and a fatal work injury rate of 2.6 per 100,000 full-time workers.

In night and tenth place are the retail trade and educational and health service industries respectively.
