The Chicken Ranch Casino & Resort in Jamestown, California will feature SageGlass smart windows surrounding the casino on three sides, bringing sweeping mountain vistas directly to the gaming floor. The use of SageGlass solves a major design challenge for the project: providing guests with views of the outdoors while supporting day-to-day operations by minimizing glare on gaming devices and security cameras thanks to the automatic tinting properties of smart windows.

โ€œOur first opportunity to use SageGlass was six years ago in a new conference center that had amazing views of the golf course but faced directly west. Smart windows allowed us to retain unobstructed views and the performance far exceeded our initial expectations,โ€ said Douglas Worth, principal architect and chairman of WORTHGROUP Architects & Designers. โ€œAt Chicken Ranch Resort, we have a similar challenge but one that is even more demanding due to the use of equipment that is very sensitive to glare and reflections. SageGlass allows us to transform the casino experience into one that is bright, open and connected to nature.โ€

SageGlassโ€™s automatic tinting capabilities means that casinos, hotels and other hospitality venues can avoid using blinds or other window coverings throughout the day, allowing guests to see outdoors and those outside to see the excitement of the gaming floor, bar area, and sports lounge as they approach the entrance.

The SageGlass smart windows that will be included in the new, state-of-the-art gaming resort and conference center will also improve thermal comfort, helping Chicken Ranch realize energy savings while providing views of the outdoors that are increasingly sought by casino patrons.

โ€œThe customer experience is our number one priority and drove every decision we made in the design process,โ€ Worth said. The incorporation of SageGlass smart windows in the building project also meets a key business need: research finds that guests spend more money in spaces with light and outdoor views 1,2.

โ€œWhile delivering a first-rate guest experience has always been a priority in the gaming sector, there is a new trend on designing casinos with wellness in mind,โ€ SageGlass Vice President of Sales Mike Lane said. โ€œWith contemporary casino guests desiring views of the outdoor and natural light, we expect to see more casinos incorporate smart windows into their design.โ€

โ€œWe are excited to continue partnering with leaders in the gaming industry to make their facilities the best in the business,โ€ added Lane.ย  โ€œWith the recent addition of dynamic glass to the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), new direct pay mechanisms will allow tax-exempt entities, such as tribal governments, to benefit from significant tax credits which historically they could not.

Originally announced in January 2021, the nine-story, 190+ room resort will include a luxury day spa, fitness center, dynamic rooftop pool and event space in addition to the new casino floor with 30% more gaming devices and an increase in the number of table games. Located near the western gateway to Yosemite National Park, the new casino resort is expected to be an even more popular stop for visitors and bring a new wave of economic development to the region. The expanded Chicken Ranch Casino & Resort is slated to open in spring 2024.
