Big-D Companies had a successful Week of Giving, held in partnership with the American Heart Association from September 14–21, 2024. The event brought together associates from across the company’s business units to raise awareness and support for heart health.
Throughout the week, Big-D associates contributed to raising an impressive $25,925.79, surpassing the company’s initial goal of $20,000. To further magnify the impact, Big-D Companies matched donations up to $20,000, bringing the total to $45,925.79. All funds raised will go directly toward supporting the American Heart Association’s mission to fight heart disease and stroke through life-saving research, education, and community programs.
Participation across the company was strong, with over 150 associates engaging in heart walks and various activities aimed at promoting heart health. In addition to the heart walks, other community initiatives took place, including Big-D Signature Park City’s partnership with UDOT for a walk and highway cleanup, and Big-D Logistics’ donation of canned goods to Feeding America, highlighting the company’s broader commitment to giving back.
“Our 2024 Week of Giving built upon our annual commitment and was a tremendous success. I couldn’t be prouder of the collective efforts from everyone. Raising over $25,000—and reaching a total of nearly $46,000 with the company match—shows just how dedicated we are to making a real impact in the communities where we live and work,” said Shaun Orr, Chief Information Officer of Big-D Companies. “Our partnership with the American Heart Association reflects the values we hold dear: supporting health, well-being, and each other. Together, we’re not only raising funds but also raising awareness for a cause that affects so many lives.”
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in the United States, impacting millions of individuals and families each year. The American Heart Association has been a leader in addressing this challenge through pioneering research, advocacy for healthier communities, and advancing patient care. Their pursuit of equitable health for all perfectly aligns with Big-D’s goals during the Week of Giving, where our collective efforts helped raise significant funds to support their vital mission.
“The American Heart Association is humbled and honored to be part of the Week of Giving at Big-D Companies. It’s inspiring to see employees make strides to adopt healthy habits, step out for a good cause and raise critical funds to help save lives from the number one killer of Americans and Utahns – cardiovascular disease,” said Liv Sasaki, Executive Director, American Heart Association Utah Division.
The Week of Giving serves as an important reminder of Big-D’s ongoing commitment to wellness and community engagement. The company looks forward to continuing its strong partnership with the American Heart Association in future initiatives to support heart health and improve lives.
