Bendheim’s specialty architectural glass is helping shape the interior experience at Printemps’ first permanent U.S. flagship at One Wall Street in New York City.
Founded in Paris in 1865, the French luxury retailer selected the landmark Art Deco building for its U.S. debut. Designed by architect Ralph Walker and completed in 1931, One Wall Street provides a historic backdrop for a retail environment blending fashion, beauty and lifestyle offerings with experiential design.
Specified by Design Republic, Bendheim’s low-iron etched architectural glass is featured in softly illuminated walls throughout the flagship. The glass adds visual texture while filtering light to help create a distinctive atmosphere within the space.
The custom installation incorporates Bendheim’s TurnKey glass wall cladding system, which was adapted to accommodate the project’s architectural, aesthetic and lighting requirements.
“Projects like this require an extraordinary level of coordination because virtually every finish was custom designed,” Schimenti Construction Company Project Executive Dan Motill says. “The Bendheim team worked closely with the design team to adapt the glass wall system to the project’s specific aesthetic and lighting goals.”
The project highlights the growing role architectural materials are playing as retailers invest in more immersive brick-and-mortar environments. Elements such as diffused lighting, textured surfaces and custom glass installations can help transform the physical store into an extension of the brand experience.
At Printemps, Bendheim’s specialty glass serves both functional and aesthetic purposes, complementing the historic architecture of One Wall Street while helping establish a contemporary setting for the retailer’s first permanent U.S. flagship.
