Bellet Construction, a leader in exterior building restoration and construction, is proud to announce that it has been awarded a contract by the Brooklyn Public Library to conduct critical parapet wall inspections at 62 of their branches. The project is a key initiative to ensure compliance with the New York City Department of Buildings’ new parapet wall regulations.
As part of the city’s ongoing efforts to enhance public safety, the Department of Buildings has updated its requirements for parapet walls. Beginning January 1st, 2024, owners of buildings with parapet fronting the public right-of-way (a public street, avenue, sidewalk, roadway or any other public way), regardless of height, are required to have an annual observation of the building’s parapet performed. The updated regulation mandates thorough inspections and potential repairs to ensure that parapet walls are structurally sound and meet current safety standards, with the deadline being the end of this year.
Over the course of the project, the Bellet team will inspect each branch’s parapet walls, identifying any structural concerns and providing solutions to bring them into compliance with the city’s standards. The team will provide a summary of the parapet conditions of all BPL branches along with photographs for each branch.
“We are honored to be partnering with the Brooklyn Public Library to help maintain the safety and longevity of their facilities,” adds Wayne Bellet, President, at Bellet Construction. “With the updated parapet wall regulations, it is crucial to ensure all public buildings meet the highest standards. We’re pleased to play a part in safeguarding these important community resources.”
The Brooklyn Public Library was founded in 1895, three years before the consolidation of New York City’s five boroughs, and today consists of internationally renowned scholarly research collections as well as a vast network of neighborhood libraries that serve millions of patrons each year, offers nearly 65,000 free programs a year with writers, thinkers, artists, and educators. Bellet Construction will deploy its skilled team of experts to perform detailed inspections and assessments, providing thorough reports to ensure compliance with the Department of Buildings’ mandates.
