Huber Engineered Woods, a leading manufacturer of innovative building solutions, has announced that its AdvanTech® roof and wall sheathing product line is available nationwide.
The nationwide rollout follows nearly two decades of success in meeting and exceeding residential and commercial applications in the New England region, where weather conditions require architects, builders and developers to rely on trusted building products that deliver performance.
“Architects and builders trust AdvanTech flooring’s superior strength and moisture resistance and now AdvanTech roof and wall sheathing brings the same level of quality to the entire build,” said Jason Darling, general manager of AdvanTech flooring. “Architects and builders can now cover an entire home with the strength and moisture protection they rely on when they see the AdvanTech logo.”
AdvanTech sheathing is manufactured with design strength and stiffness capacities beyond those required by code minimum (PS-2) for OSB or plywood panels. The panel’s design stiffness also surpasses most competitor panels, contributing to a more durable product for better application on site.
In addition, AdvanTech sheathing has a Structural 1 rating for greater resistance to wind and seismic loads, as well as unmatched moisture resistance using the same advanced resin technology as AdvanTech flooring. AdvanTech sheathing also is backed by an industry-leading limited lifetime warranty not available with traditional plywood.
AdvanTech® sheathing has been available for nearly 20 years across the northeastern United States, including New Hampshire, where builder Matt Blanc has been battling the elements for a quarter-century.
“The harsh New England climates are among the coldest and hottest in the United States and both extremes put homebuilding products to a true test,” said Blanc, owner of Blanc & Bailey Construction Inc., a developer of residential and commercial properties across Vermont and New Hampshire. “Most products can’t survive or perform in our climate, but AdvanTech panels can.”
Blanc said his company has not received a single callback since first using AdvanTech sheathing in 2004 on two almost identical 42,000-square-foot manufacturing facilities built side-by-side, noting that the product helps his developments “stand the tests of time.” He is currently using AdvanTech sheathing in three high-profile projects in the Connecticut Valley – a 70,000-square-foot assisted living center, a 190,000-square-foot hotel and a 4,000-square-foot bank.
“I find durability is never an issue with AdvanTech sheathing,” Blanc said. “Even though our jobsites are often exposed to ice, rain and heavy, wet snow, AdvanTech panels never warp or delaminate, and they go down flat and stay flat. I can’t say that about other sheathing products, including plywood, after exposure to our weather.”
Dan Williams, superintendent for The Whiting-Turner Contracting Company in Tampa, Fla., switched to AdvanTech sheathing last year for multifamily applications, including on a 14-structure, 250-unit apartment complex in suburban Tampa.
“I can’t imagine building without AdvanTech sheathing in a climate whose rainy season lasts more than half a year,” Williams said. “You can’t go wrong with a panel designed to withstand not only wet, moist conditions, but also the heat and humidity that defines Sun Belt states.”
Williams’s first introduction to the brand was with AdvanTech flooring on a $26 million, 15,000-square-foot waterfront home overlooking the Tampa Bay. He knew plywood would not be an option for a high-end custom home exposed to moisture 24/7 both during construction and the life of the home.
“Due to the scope of the project, it took over a year before we could close up the home,” Williams said. “I needed a panel that would lay flat and stay flat and wouldn’t move. That was nearly four years ago, and the homeowner will tell you today that his floors are still perfect.”
Williams said the success of the AdvanTech® flooring application led him to switch to AdvanTech sheathing once available in his market.
“In my experience, if you use other OSB materials in multifamily applications, builders, subcontractors and residents tend to have problems,” he said. “That’s not the case with AdvanTech panels, which give me peace of mind until my buildings are sealed.”
