Conservant Systems is the proud developer of the High Efficiency Dehumidification System (HEDS)—whose solutions have been recognized at the highest levels of the U.S. military and most recently recognized as a part of the Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command Southwest (NAVFAC SW) group that received a Secretary of the Navy Energy Excellence Award.
The Secretary of the Navy Energy Excellence Awards Program annually recognizes excellence in energy security, new technology, innovation, program management, and efficiency across the Department of the Navy. NAVFAC SW is implementing six projects that are named as a part of their award, implementation of the High Efficiency Dehumidification System (HEDS) by the Southern California Gas Company for a mission critical building at Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach is one of the named projects.
HEDS is proven to be beneficial to high-level, critical importance facilities like those of the military due to its energy efficiency and viral/biological pathogen fighting solutions. This DoD-proven technology is now being commercialized for private-sector use.
Hundreds of millions of dollars are wasted every year in attempts to control relative humidity (RH), corrosion and biological growth in facilities across the country. Additional dollars are spent on remediation and reconstruction work to reduce physical harm to people and facilities when HVAC systems are unsuccessful in controlling biological growth.
Besides the total health and wellness-related costs, controlling the temperature and relative humidity of the air entering labs, clean rooms, and manufacturing facilities consumes hundreds of millions of additional dollars annually due to the energy intensity of current market solutions.
Conservant Systems developed a cost-effective, energy-efficient, maintainable, sustainable and scalable dehumidification and RH control solution to combat these problems. The High-Efficiency Dehumidification System (HEDS) was born after substantial research, development, and computer modeling. HEDS is simple, reliable and easily maintainable, requiring knowledge of only basic HVAC system operations, and is scalable, from the smallest room level equipment to the largest central system equipment.
HEDS is a patent-protected, energy recovery method designed to save over 40% of the cooling and heating energy related to the cooling, dehumidification, and reheat process while also reducing health and wellness productivity loss risks caused by poor relative humidity control. HEDS was also recognized as the 2016 Department of Energy FEMP JUMP Nationwide Energy Efficiency Competition winner and 2014 and 2018 Department of Defense ESTCP Global Energy Efficiency Technology Competitions.
