Qualtrics’ new study, The Hotel Pain Index, is now live and you can view/download the full report here or the infographic here.
In the inaugural Hotel Pain Index, experience management company, Qualtrics, surveyed 1,000 recent hotel patrons ranking annoyances they encountered, ranging from bad nights to horror stories. As a result, it found that nearly 1 in 5 guests say their hotel experience was so bad it ruined their vacation.
Here is a sampling of the findings:
–Top detractors: Dirty rooms (66%) and unfriendly employees (75%) are sure to drive customers away
–Top attractors: The most desired amenities are on-site restaurant (86%), parking (83%) and pool/spa (68%)
–Horror stories: 12% found bodily fluids on the sheets in their hotel room, 9% said their room was haunted.
The study also explores how guests choose hotels, customer service preferences and more:
–Ratings reign: More than 2/3 of patrons read guest ratings when choosing where to stay.
–Lack of experience: Overall 35% of guests feel hotels don not put a lot of effort into providing a great experience and that jumps to half for one and two-star hotel guests.
–Luxury tears: 34% of 5-star hotel guests have cried because of a bad experience while only 13% of all guests have cried because of a bad experience. Its tough being pampered.
