Trane – by Trane Technologies (NYSE: TT), a global climate innovator, has introduced new innovations to provide outdoor heat pump technology to multi-zoned buildings, optimize indoor environments, and empower customers to start their transition to next-generation refrigerants.
- Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC U.S. (METUS) has expanded the Trane® / Mitsubishi SMART MULTI® line to include 6-, 8-, and 10-ton outdoor units ideal for light commercial buildings with space constraints.
- The new Synexis® Sentry XL joins the Synexis family of air and surface purification solutions, providing air purification and surface cleaning in occupied spaces up to 3,000 square feet.
- The company is transitioning its IntelliPak® and Voyager® lines of packaged rooftop units to A2L refrigerants as part of Trane Technologies’ climate commitment.
Trane / Mitsubishi SMART MULTI Three-Phase System Offers Long-Term Performance
Mitsubishi Electric Trane HVAC U.S. has added three new capacities to its line of Trane / Mitsubishi SMART MULTI multi-zone heat pumps for light commercial buildings requiring individual zoning. New capacities include 6-, 8-, and 10-ton pump systems. The three-phase, 208/23-volt system provides occupant comfort, efficient operation, superior air filtration, and high efficiency with an Integrated Energy Efficiency Ratio (IEER) of up to 24.2.
A cost-effective option for light commercial applications with space constraints, the system is ideal for one- to three-story multifamily buildings, churches, offices, and other commercial buildings. The system features:
- A side discharge arrangement with a slim outdoor unit profile for reduced footprint.
- Capacities in 72 kilo British thermal units per hour (KBTU/H), 96 KBTU/H, and 120 KBTU/H.
- High-efficiency systems with ENERGY STAR® ratings.
- Coefficient of performance (COP) ratios up to 4.3 at 47 degrees Fahrenheit and up to 2.7 at 17 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Access for multi-directional piping from the front, bottom, right, or back of the unit requires less physical space for piping.
Synexis Sentry XL Improves Indoor Air Quality in Large Spaces
Employing odorless, and invisible patented Dry Hydrogen Peroxide (DHP®) technology to break down pathogens, the Synexis Sentry XL provides continuous 24-hour air purification and surface cleanliness for occupied spaces up to 3,000 square feet, one of the industry’s most expansive coverage areas. Effective against certain viruses, bacteria, and mold, the Sentry XL helps to contribute to a cleaner environment, enhancing productivity through improved indoor air quality.
With its widespread coverage, customers can decrease the number of units needed to protect a space, helping to reduce the total cost of ownership and service-related expenses. With no integration into HVAC systems required, these portable standalone units plug into 120 volts of alternative current (VAC)/220VAC outlets, much like an appliance, for easy implementation with no tools or training needed.
The system meets the needs of a wide variety of large spaces with:
- Technology that creates DHP from the natural oxygen and humidity in the air with an Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 2998-validated solution that eliminates ozone emissions.
- Efficacy in temperatures as low as 37 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Corrosion-resistant aluminum and stainless-steel internals that enable seamless operation in various conditions.
- Reduction in catalyst service cycles and filter replacements to every six months and light emitting diode (LED) bulb service cycles to every five years.
- Standalone or wall mounting options to adapt to various requirements.
IntelliPak 1, IntelliPak 2, and Voyager 3 Rooftop Units Transition to A2L Refrigerant Ahead of EPA Deadline
Refrigerant management is one of Trane’s four pillars of decarbonization, along with electrification, efficiency, and renewable energy. Migrating products to next-generation low global warming potential (GWP) refrigerants is essential in the progression.
Trane continues on the path by transitioning IntelliPak 1 Rooftop Units (20-130 tons), IntelliPak 2 Rooftop Units (90-150 tons), and Voyager 3 Rooftop Units (27.5-50 tons) to A2L, a R-454B next-generation refrigerant that is more environmentally friendly according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
“Trane uses the right refrigerant for the right application at the right times while considering safety, reliability, performance, and cost,” says David Molin, Vice President of Trane Product Management. “We have thoughtfully engineered the changeover of our popular IntelliPak and Voyager Rooftop Units to a lower global warming potential refrigerant and added leak detection systems standard on all units to make it easy for contractors and engineers to comply with safety and regulatory standards.”
Units from both lines now come standard with factory-installed leak detection systems that mitigate refrigerant concentrations so customers can help simplify compliance, and help to save time and money compared to installing a leak detection system in the field.
Trane is transitioning to the new refrigerant ahead of the EPA’s January 1, 2025, deadline for packaged units and split systems.
