Construction generates roughly a third of the world’s waste, and an estimated 40% of global carbon emissions: Mips (MIPS AB), which develops helmet safety systems for the construction industry among others, seeks to lead the industry towards drastic action to slash its environmental impact utilizing advanced computer science technology.

Mips recently announced their Virtual Test Lab (VTL), an initiative with the potential to significantly reduce waste from helmet prototypes for Mips’ partners and their customers. VTL leverages advanced computer science to virtually predict how new helmets will perform in real-life impacts.

VTL’s ability to virtually test helmet prototypes also reduces costs and time-to-market for new helmets.

In addition to the UN Global Compact, which ensures Mips and its manufacturers uphold its ten principles on human rights, labor law, the environment and anti-corruption, Mips’ emissions targets are approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) in line with the Paris Agreement, to do its part in limiting climate change to 1.5°C.
