Cuhaci Peterson, a Central-Florida based architecture and engineering firm, enlisted nearly three dozen of its staff members nationwide in its recent Project Management Bootcamp. The two-day event was made possible through a collaboration with PSMJ Resources, Inc. and was the first of its kind at the more than 40-year-old business.
“Project management is one of our service offerings and while we have a very talented and dedicated team, we are always looking for ways to go from good to great,” said Greg Simpson, the firm’s chief executive officer. “This initiative was a major investment for the firm to not only grow our teams, but also continue to customize our client experiences while efficiently and effectively managing projects to stay within budget, meet timelines and exceed expectations,” he noted.
Attendees included not only project managers, but also support staff from the company’s offices in Boston, Central Florida, Philadelphia and Phoenix, as well as its remote locations.
“We wanted to get a vast and deep array of people here to understand these principles because they’re really all involved in the project management process in some way,” noted Bo Newman, the firm’s chief financial officer. “The more people understand it, the more we can start to affect the outcome, like seeing improvements in our project delivery, financial performance and client satisfaction. The firm is really committed to this,” he said.
PSMJ Resources, which provides advising, education and training to the architecture, engineering and construction industry, developed this bootcamp to cover everything from scheduling and budgeting to negotiating and selling while allowing participants to earn continuing education units.
“We were delighted to talk about setting up projects for success and making sure they’re in accordance with what client expectations are, which means you’re achieving high levels of design excellence and at the same time making that level of net profit that everyone deserves,” explained Chris Martersteck, an A/E/C project management consultant with PSMJ Resources. “This is a business, and all these things are essential to its success,” Martersteck said.
