SLAM (The S/L/A/M Collaborative) has been recognized by the Connecticut Building Congress (CBC) for three Project Team Awards, winning for outstanding building projects in the healthcare and education markets that exemplify teamwork excellence and best practices by project owners, architects, engineers, constructors, and trades. The CBC Project Team Awards will be presented on June 14, 2022, at The Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, CT.ย The Project Team of the Year will also be announced at the banquet event.
FIRST PLACE AWARD in the Higher Education (Large) category for the new 85,000-square foot, state-of-the-art, Charles F. Dolan School of Business Project at Fairfield University in Fairfield, CT. SLAM, Gilbane Building Company, and Fairfield University worked cohesively to deliver theย project within budget and on time for the fall 2019 opening. Techniques such as Gilbaneโs Advanced Planning andย Scheduling (AP&S) and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) ensured the project remained on schedule and tradesย were coordinated transparently despite challenges, such as expansive sitework, long-lead custom materials, and a uniqueย curved building frame.
Merit place award in the Higher Education (Large) category for the Sacred Heart University, Upper Quad Phase 3 Project in Fairfield, CT. SLAM, Consigli, and Sacred Heart University collaborated proactively to deliver the final phase of the Universityโsย signature quad marked by aย modern interpretation of collegiate gothic architecture and lush outdoor spaces. Utilizing hybrid communication modelsย and maintaining uninterruptedย construction, the team achieved a cohesive gathering space to support studentsย for yearsย to come.
Merit place award in the Senior Living (Large) category for the Chapel Haven Schleifer Center Independent Living (SAIL) Building Project in New Haven, CT. The integrated design build team of SLAM and S/L/A/M Construction Services worked with the owner and the entire project team to developย aย uniqueย program,ย efficientย design, budget goals,ย constructability solutionsย and project logistics thatย responded to the residential, communal, wellness and clinical needs of Chapel Havenโs aging population. The new Schleifer Adult Independent Living (SAIL) Building, a $17 million-dollar four-story 48,500-square foot, 28-unit facility with 42 beds replaced several older structures to accommodate the needs of Chapel Havenโsย community members with autistic spectrum aging.
