Escape rooms are all about story-telling, and every story has its heroes. Every hero has its loyal companions, each with their own special role to play. Here are four escape room archetypes: which one are you?
1. The Fearless Leader
This very respectable individual simply exudes authority. The Leader is the grown-up of the group, with a natural gravitas that makes everyone listen to what they have to say. They are in charge of delegating tasks, checking in with everyone, and making sure the team is working together as they should. Leaders like to focus on the big picture. They provide a voice of reason in sometimes very frenetic situations and help resolve conflicts.
2. The Seeker
Easter is definitely the Seeker’s favorite holiday. This type of player loves picking the room apart in search of clues: double-checking drawers, fiddling with locks, and tapping on wood to look for hidden compartments. They’ve got the nose of a bloodhound, admirable attention to detail, and sizzling with energy to boot. Seekers delight in finding the unexpected and presenting the group with their findings with glee.
3. The Puzzler
This highly logical and astute thinker enjoys a good game of chess or sudoku in their daily life. They’ll get right into the nitty-gritty of a particular problem and keep the gears turning at wicked speeds. The only downside to this type of character is that the puzzles tend to swallow them whole. Puzzlers like to keep their attention on the problem at hand, zoning out a little from the rest of the action.
4. The Loyal Friend
This friendly type is always ready to lend a helping hand. When the going gets tough, the Loyal Friend gets out the moral support. The Samwise Gamgee of the group, this type of escape game player offers much needed encouragement in times of frustration or fatigue. The team can count on them to keep the atmosphere light and cheery, so that everyone can power on through to the end.
