The Southeast Michigan Council of Governments Commission voted 24-7 on Friday to advance a $2.3 billion proposal to expand two stretches of Interstates 75 and 94 that serve Detroit and its suburbs. Work on I-75 could begin in 2016, while construction on I-94 could start in 2018. The project includes constructing an extra lane on each highway, overpass replacements and interchange improvements.
